The River Course

We row on a wonderful river called the Credit. It is its very last 2000 metres which provides us with water before it runs into Lake Ontario. We row between the Queen Elizabeth Way and Lakeshore Road East. The Credit River is the only major watercourse in the Greater Toronto Area that is unpolluted and still rich in bird and wildlife species. It is a reliably calm and beautiful stretch of water. Unlike rowing on Lake Ontario, which the other GTA clubs use, it is good to row in excess of 95% of the time. Dawn, with the mist rising off the still water of the Credit, is a terrific experience in a scull or in an VIII.

Singles, pairs, doubles and coxes have to pay attention to its turns and meanders. We share the river with the Mississauga Canoe Club (home to many Canadian, Olympic and World champions) and work together to ensure that congestion does not occur and that safety is not compromised. On those days when the Lake is calm, we take advantage of the conditions and head out to the Lake where we can row long distances without having to turn around. Again, early mornings on the Lake have to be seen to be believed. Come and join us on our river.
